Bunji Brews: Real-World Hospitality Work Experience Through Bunji Launchpad
Participants gain hands-on experience in branding, production, marketing and hospitality through a unique partnership with Principle Brewing
At Bunji Launchpad, we are passionate about creating meaningful opportunities that help participants build workplace skills, confidence and independence. That's why we were excited to once again partner with Principle Brewing on the latest Bunji Brews collaboration.
As part of the project, Launchpad participants designed the Bunji Brews can label, drawing inspiration from the individual pathways they are each taking through the Launchpad program. The design process challenged participants to think beyond creativity, considering branding collateral, product presentation and how a product connects with its target market, while honouring both the Bunji and Principle Brewing brands.
While the finished can is something to be proud of, the greatest value came from the real-world learning opportunities participants experienced throughout the project.
Learning Beyond the Label
Working alongside Principle Brewing owner and founder Dave and Head Brewer Ian, participants were given a unique behind-the-scenes look at the brewing industry and the journey a product takes from concept to consumer.
Throughout the collaboration, participants gained firsthand exposure to the manufacturing, production and distribution process, learning about the important relationships between manufacturers, retailers and consumers.
From brewing and canning through to labelling, packaging and promotion, participants experienced the many stages involved in bringing a commercial product to market.
The result was a bright, crisp and refreshing XPA (Extra Pale Ale) and an invaluable hands-on learning experience.
Real-Life Hospitality and Retail Work Experience
Many people with disabilities who pursue careers in hospitality do not always have the opportunity to experience every aspect of the industry. Through Bunji Brews, participants were exposed to both front-of-house and back-of-house operations, providing a broader understanding of how hospitality businesses operate.
Participants gained practical insights into:
Product development and branding
Manufacturing and production processes
Canning and packaging
Marketing and promotion
Hospitality operations
Retail and customer engagement
Supply chain relationships between producers, retailers and consumers
This real-world hospitality work experience helped participants develop workplace skills while exploring potential disability employment pathways within the hospitality and retail sectors.
Understanding Products and Consumer Markets
On canning day, participants were also able to sample a range of Principle Brewing products, helping them develop an understanding of different product styles, consumer preferences and market positioning.
These conversations provided valuable insight into how businesses differentiate products, build brand loyalty and compete within a crowded marketplace. Participants were able to see firsthand how customer demand influences product development, marketing and sales strategies.
Experiences like these help bridge the gap between learning and employment by providing practical exposure to real business environments.
Creating Pathways Through Community Partnerships
The Bunji Brews collaboration demonstrates the power of community partnerships in creating meaningful opportunities for people with disabilities.
Not only did participants gain valuable workplace experience across hospitality, manufacturing, marketing and retail, but the project also provided open-market employers with an opportunity to see the skills, capabilities and potential that people with disabilities bring to the workforce.
By working alongside industry professionals and contributing to a real commercial product, participants were able to develop confidence, communication skills and a greater understanding of workplace expectations.
Supporting Future Employment Opportunities
Bunji Launchpad is Bunji's School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) program, helping young people build confidence, independence and workplace readiness through practical learning experiences, community partnerships and exposure to real employment opportunities.
Projects like Bunji Brews provide participants with meaningful experiences that support future employment pathways while helping them discover new interests, develop practical skills and connect with local businesses.
We would like to thank Dave, Ian and the entire Principle Brewing team for their ongoing support of Bunji Launchpad and their commitment to creating inclusive opportunities within our community.
Together, we continue to demonstrate what is possible when businesses and community organisations work together to create genuine pathways for learning, growth and employment.
