Thank You Lunch: A Bunji Launchpad Celebration of Skills and Growth

How Bunji’s Launchpad participants used real-world skills to host a thank you event for their workplace and community supporters.

Participants in the Bunji Launchpad program hosted a special Thank You Lunch at the Corrimal Community Centre.

This event, created as part of our School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) program, brought together local businesses, mentors, and supporters from across the Bunji community; people who have provided workplace walkthroughs, hands-on work experience, encouragement, and guidance throughout the participants’ journey.

Planned, prepared and delivered by participants

The lunch wasn’t just a gesture of appreciation; it was a real-world demonstration of the practical skills our participants have gained through the Launchpad program

They took full ownership of the event, handling:

  • Menu planning and budgeting

  • Decorating the venue, setup and cleanup

  • Preparing and serving food

  • Welcoming guests and delivering speeches

It was a proud moment for everyone involved; an opportunity to see these young people take the lead with confidence and capability.

A real celebration of confidence and talent

One of the highlights of the day was hearing directly from the participants. Each person delivered a speech, sharing how the Launchpad program has helped them grow - personally, socially and professionally. Their reflections were honest and heartfelt, covering everything from overcoming nerves to setting new goals for the future.

The room itself was filled with personal touches. Cut-out paper leaves decorated the space, with each one showcasing a skill the participant had gained through Launchpad such as: “working in a team,” “making friends,” “customer service,” and “self-confidence.”

Participants also proudly displayed woodworking projects created during their sessions at the Bulli Woonona Men’s Shed, including planters, chopping boards and small furniture items. These showcased not only their creativity and craftsmanship, but also their ability to learn and apply new skills in a community setting.

To cap it all off, two talented participants entertained the crowd with live music, singing and a touch of comedy, filling the room with smiles and applause.

Thank You to Our Supporters

This lunch was a chance to give back, to say thank you to the many people who have supported Launchpad participants along the way. From offering work experience opportunities to simply cheering from the sidelines, everyone’s support has helped create meaningful pathways for young people with disability to build independence, confidence and connection.

We’re incredibly proud of what our participants achieved, and grateful to everyone who has walked alongside them on this journey.
